By the numbers: 5, 247 Photographers, 124 Nationalities, 101, 254 pictures. Three hundred and fifty images by 57 photographers of 24 nationalities were awarded prizes in nine categories. The Big Picture dedica una gallery alle foto vincitrici della 55esima edizione del World Press Photo Contest.

Quella sopra, vincitrice del riconoscimento di “foto dell’anno”, è stata definita “la Pietà” della Primavera Araba ed è stata scattata da Samuel Aranda, unico fotografo occidentale ad aver documentato la rivolta nello Yemen.

Le altre foto, ovviamente, sono altrettanti capolavori.
