Il padre degli zombie critica il percorso cinematografico e televisivo dei morti viventi in questi ultimi anni e l’impossibilità di produrre nuove pellicole legate al tema. Non sono un discorso sociopolitico ma anche un problema di budget.
George Romero si auto-definisce un regista vecchio stampo; molto legato al mondo che ha creato, non riesce ad accettare le trame, i personaggi e l’intero mondo-zombie inventato da serie TV quali The Walking Dead o film come World War Z. Il regista, che vorrebbe produrre un nuovo film (noir) basato sui morti viventi, si ritrova anche con un bel problema legato al budget:
Now, because of World War Z and The Walking Dead, I can’t pitch a modest little zombie film, which is meant to be sociopolitical. I used to be able to pitch them on the basis of the zombie action, and I could hide the message inside that. Now, you can’t. The moment you mention the word zombie, it’s got to be, “Hey, Brad Pitt paid $400 million to do that”.
