Edison, il capostipite della piracy
In 1902, agents of Thomas Edison bribed a theater owner in London for a copy of A Trip to the Moon by Georges Méliès. Edison then made hundreds of copies and showed them in New York City. Méliès received no compensation. He was counting on taking the film to the US and recapture its huge cost by showing it throughout the country when he realized it had already been shown there by Edison. This effectively bankrupted Méliès.
Nel 1902, gli agenti di Thomas Edison contrattarono con il proprietario di un cineteatro a Londra per la duplicazione di “A Trip to the Moon” di Georges Méliès. Edison però fece centinaia di copie e le mostrò nei teatri di New York City. Méliès non ricevette un cent. Edison lo pirateggiò alla grande manco fosse Bill Gates. Méliès contava di inviare le copie negli states per recuperare gli enormi costi sostenuti per le realizzazione (ed anche per la duplicazione fatta da Edison). In pratica Edison provocò la bancarotta di Méliès.
È incredibile come ancora oggi, nonostante 28 articoli correlati a Georges Méliès, sulla lega non fosse accennato.
