HP compra Palm

HP has just announced that it’s acquiring Palm to the tune of $1.2 billion, which works out to $5.70 per share of Palm common stock. The deal is planned to close by July 31, which marks the end of HP’s third fiscal quarter of the year. Current Palm CEO Jon Rubinstein is “expected to remain with the company,” though it’s not said in what capacity. Press release after the break. Speriamo che Palm non finisca come Compaq, che dominava il mercato dei palmari (iPaq FTW) e poi, comprata da HP, è finita nell’oblio del nulla cosmico.

Alla Palm dicono che era tutto previsto ecc. di sicuro 1.2 miliardi di dollari, per un’azienda che stava per chiudere, che ha una presenza sul territorio al di fuori degli USA ri-di-co-la e una brand awareness in calo verticale.. non è male.

Vedremo cosa succederà. Di buono c’é che immagino finalmente il Pre e i futuri prodotti Web OS arriveranno anche in Europa (già avevano timidamente iniziato).

Considero il Web OS un gran sistema sulla fascia smartphone, venduto male e pubblicizzato peggio fino ad ora.
